Perplexity Comet

Perplexity Comet is Perplexity's web browser (built on Chromium, just like Chrome) with a built-in AI agent that can browse, click, and fill out forms for you. You tell it "find me 5 plumbers in Lyon with their reviews," and it does that while you get on with something else.

— What it is

Perplexity Comet, in plain words

In plain words: it's a real browser where an AI can take over the current tab to run searches and do tasks for you.

In practice: "book me this train ticket," "fill out this form with my info," "compare the 10 products in this tab." It takes over, browses, clicks, fills things in. I can stop it at any time.

Available on Mac, Windows, and Linux. On mobile, it's built into the Perplexity app on iOS and Android with a "Background Assistant" mode.

What I use it for

The cases where Comet saves me time:

  • Finding suppliers / providers: "find me 10 freelance designers in Paris with their portfolios and their rates." It does the rounds, and I get back a table.
  • Competitive research: "compare the prices of these 5 SaaS tools and their features." It goes through them and sums it up.
  • Repetitive form filling: sign-up forms, applications, and so on. I leave it running for 10 minutes and it's done.
  • Comparison shopping: "which of these 3 sites is cheapest for this product, shipping included?" It does the math.
  • Pulling info from several sites: it opens 10 tabs, reads them, and hands you a clean summary.

How it compares

vs ChatGPT Atlas / Operator (OpenAI): Atlas goes further with agents that really act (buy, confirm). Comet is faster at searching and summarizing. Atlas requires ChatGPT Pro at $200.

vs Arc Search / Dia (The Browser Company): Dia looks nicer on the UX and privacy side. Comet is more powerful in "do it for me" mode.

vs Chrome + an extension: Chrome is still more stable and compatible with everything. Comet brings a native agent that feels smoother than an extension.

How much it costs

Pricing as of May 2026 (source: perplexity.ai/comet):

  • Comet is free to download with the basic features
  • The advanced agent features need Perplexity Pro at $20/month
  • Perplexity Pro also includes GPT-5, Claude Sonnet 4.6, and premium search

So for $20/month you get Perplexity (AI search), Comet (the agent browser), and access to several big models at once. It's one of the best value-for-money deals on the market.

My take

I use it as a second browser for the tasks I want to delegate. My main browser is still Chrome, for ecosystem reasons (passwords, extensions).

That "magic" feeling the first time is real: you tell it to do something, you go grab a coffee, and it's done. On simple tasks, it's genuinely impressive. On complex ones (multiple steps, confirmations), it still trips up sometimes.

If you already pay for Perplexity Pro, download Comet — you'll use it. If you don't pay yet, it's a good reason to subscribe.
